Avila’s Corona del Mar celebrates 50 years of El Ranchito

The Corona del Mar location of Avila’s El Ranchito celebrated the Mexican restaurant group’s 50th anniversary with a Summer Fiesta on July 21. The event featured drinks, mariachi music, souvenirs, raffles and, of course, food.

The first Avila’s opened in 1966 in Huntington Park, and the brand now has 13 restaurants in Southern California — 12 of them in Orange County.

Founders Salvador and Margarita “Mamá” Avila live in Corona del Mar.

The anniversary party in Corona del Mar was the latest in a series being held at all Avila’s El Ranchito locations this summer.

The restaurant at 2800 Newport Blvd. in Newport Beach, established in 1975, will host one Aug. 11.
